ATOMIC THEORY

SABRINA LYON

DEMOCRITUS

  • Started searching for a example of matter 2400 years ago.
  • Democritus thought of atoms as small hard particals that we're made up
  • Lots of things.

JOHN DALTON

J.J Thompson

  • Nicknames for his atomic theory.
  • Plum pudding, Christmas pudding, or choc. Chip cookie.
  • In 1997 he changed the view of a atom by finding electron.
  • A atom has a positive & negative charge in it.
  • The positive and negative change are equal.

EARNEST RUTHERFORD

  • Put Thompson's and his idea together.
  • Making it know as the planetary model.
  • Showed that the nucleus is most of the mass of the atom.
  • Him & 2 other scientists made a experiment.
It's is called the planetary model because just the are planets the electrons orbit the nucleus like the sun.

The experiment was the alpha particles that they put through there microscopically thin layer of gold. They are just helium that has 2 electrons taken out.

Neils Bohr

  • Bohr improved on rutherfords model in 1913.
  • He said orbiting the nucleus without losing energy.
  • Moved a certain way
  • The farther away the the more energy they had.
  • And the closer they were the less energy they had.

Erwin Schrodinger

  • Is well known for the schrodinger equation.
  • On a noble prize in 1933
