PHILLIP II FACTS

  • Phillip was born in the city of Valladolid on May 21, 1527.
  • In 1543, Phillip began governing the Spanish Empire at the age of 16
  • Philip's father arranged his marriage to 37-year old Queen Mary I of England
  • Prevented Protestantism from spreading into Spain and Portugal
  • Rose to become a very powerful English Monarch in the era of war and religious conflict

PHILLIP II SYMBOLS

  • Catholic Cross- he was a very strong catholic
  • Spanish Flag- he was the ruler of the Spanish empire
  • Sun in the Sky- people called his empire "the empire when the sun never sets"

LOUIS XIV

  • Was known as Louis the Great
  • His reign lasted 72 years and is the longest of all monarchs
  • While he was ruling France participated in three different wars
  • Louis used court ritual and the arts to validate and augment his control over France
  • Brought about absolute monarchy to its height during his reign

LOUIS XIV SYMBOLS

  • Gun- during his reign France fought three wars
  • Guinness World Record Book- he held the longest reign of all monarchs
  • Paint Supplies- he was an artist

IVAN THE TERRIBLE

  • His real name was Ivan IV Vasilyevich
  • He was described as intelligent and devout
  • Both of his parents died before he turned 9 years old
  • Ivan's most important legacy can be found in the political changes he enacted in Russia.
  • Ivan died from a stroke while playing chess with Bogdan Belsky

  • The White House- he was very interested in changing Russia's political aspects
  • Chess board- he died while playing a game of chess

PETER THE GREAT

  • Peter the great's childhood toughened his outlook in life
  • Born in Moscow, Russia on June 9, 1672
  • Was a Russian czar in the 17th century
  • He created a strong navy and reorganized his army according to Western standards
  • He administered greater control over the reactionary Orthodox Church and introduced new administrative and territorial divisions of the country

  • Navy and army- He recreated them and made them stronger
  • Church- had control over the Eastern Orthodox Church
  • Science Lab- He focused on the development of Science

HENRY VIII

  • was born at the royal residence, Greenwich Palace, on June 28, 1491
  • He got married 6 different times
  • Created his own religion ( The Lutheran Church)
  • Was upset that his wives could never bare a daughter
  • Ruled England for 36 years

  • Baby boy- could never have a male child
  • Lutheran church- made the religion
  • English Flag- Ruled England for 36 years

ELIZABETH I

  • She was born on the September 7, 1533 in Greenwich England.
  • She became queen at the age of 25 and held it for 44 years
  • She is considered England's most famous monarch
  • She is known as " The Virgin Queen" because she never was married
  • Elizabeth has largely been remembered as being a queen who supported her people
