THE BIRTH OF ATHENA
After Zeus had an affair with Metis, an oracle of Gaea prophesied that her first child would be a girl. Then the Oracle of Gaea prophesied that Metis's second child would be a son that would overthrow Zeus. This had happened to his father and grandfather, so Zeus decided to do something to prevent this from happening.
The next time he saw Metis he began to flatter her and when she was off guard, he swallowed her. A while later Zeus had begin to have a terrible headache and he howled so loudly everyone could hear him. Hermes soon realised what to do. He told Hephaestus to split Zeus's skull open. Hephaestus did so using a wedge to split his skull open. Upon doing so, Athena sprung out of Zeus's skull. Athena was fully grown and cloaked in armour.
