The land is tropical, hit, and humid in the lowlands and cool in the highlands. Guatemala has mostly mountains in its terrain. It's highest point is Volcan Tajumulco (4,211 meters)
The Guatemalan currency is called the Quetzal. 1 Quetzal equals about 13 cents. The Quetzal is named after Guatemala's national bird, the Resplendent Quetzal. In the Mayan culture the people used the Quetzal's tail feathers as a currency.
Guatemala's government is a constitutional democratic republic which is a government like ours where the citizens of Guatemala vote for their president and is governed by a constitution.
The Mayan people were very smart and had a diverse type of culture. They figured out many ways to do things. For example the Mayan people made a calendar that just ended about a year ago. Their main language in the Mayan times was called Yucatec.
Camuscas (street soccer) is one of the many games played by kids in Guatemala and was developed in the 1900s. In the early 1900s, most of the Guatemalan cities did not have street lights so the kids would douse the ball in kerosene and light the ball on fire so it was visable!
