A surge of immigration began and people from Germany, Scandinavia, Ireland moved here
Many of their meals impacted the type of food served here
New wave of immigrants adopted many regional dishes

Hot dish is an all in one meal, known for its conveince and ability to feed many people
Invented for a fast way to make dinner for a large family or church event
Common types of hot dish are: tuna with noodles or tater tot casserole
Hot dish meals are often followed by a desert called bars
They are cookies baked in a casserole dish and then cut into rectangular bars

Made of seasoned loose ground beef on a hamburger bun
It's close cousin is the Sloppy Joe
