JAZZ WAS ORIGINATED IN THE 20th CENTURY.
NEW ORLEANS IS THE BIRTH PLACE OF JAZZ.
POPULAR WITN AFRICAN AMERICANS IN
THE SOUTHERN STATES.

W.C Handy was said to have been the founder of blues.
W.C Handy was born in Florence, Alabama.
W.C Handy used folk art in many of his songs.

JAZZ
Jazz was the period of time between the end of
World War 1 and the Great Depression.
Jazz is a combination of ragtime, marching band
music and blues.

Jazz brought new dance combinations.
These's dances included the following: charleston
Black bottom, tango, shimmies, and the trot.
Women began going to bars, drinking, smoking
and wearing revealing clothing.

JELLY ROLL MORTON
He grew up in New Orleans a place with a rich museum culture.
As a teenager he worked in the whorehouses of Storyville as a piano player.
He was so good at playing the piano he played in red-light.

He was a great composer and piano player of jazz.
He was a talented arranger who wrote special scores.
He played on the West Coast from 1917 to 1922.
Then by after playing in West Coast he moved to Chicago
And where he hit his first stride.

In 1928, Morton moved to NY and there he continue to record such pieces.
Morton enjoyed such success in Los Angeles that he remained there for five years.
He moved from town to town in the South earning a living as a musician
And using each experience to form his own "sound".
Morton was so high on his music other musicians respected him all over the world.

Morton impacted jazz by having Kid Ory and Barney Bigard to rush to work from him.
