Nate Hasty,Mason,Lindsey per.2 10/6/14 For this project we will be comparing 2 ocean zones. Aphotic and Photic zones Some of you may think an ocean is an ocean it has fish. But it's our way of life.

The Photic zone is one the shallower levels.It has low nutrient levels,but still sustains a great level of life like this coral reef.Fish like the clown fish,parrot fish,sting rays,and reef sharks live here. And thousands more.Since sun light penetrates so well here we have photosynthesis and photosynthetic creatures like phytoplankton.Which is eaten by zooplankton which is eaten by whales.See the food chain.

The Earth is 75%,water we could have an endless amount of water and food Via the marine animals. However;when people dump there garbage in the ocean. or a coastal habitat gets swamped by Tsunami or hurricane.Debris gets accidentally swallowed by the sea. Or in Japan a few years ago, a massive earth quake and a tsunami triggered by the quake. Savagely ravaged Japan destroying power plants and pumping toxic waste in the ocean which in the future could take a large bite out of the Californian coastal economy which is already hurt bad. Because currents could carry waste to coastal Cali, predicted by oceanographers and marine scientists.

In then Aphotic zone you are exposed to permanent dark,high pressure,and frigid temperatures.We would need,super suits and submarines to survive.Other creatures don't need that like this deep sea squid here. Collassal squid range from 40 to 60 ft long and 8 to 10 feet wide. Large enough to wrap its hellacious tentacles around the sperm whales body, and fight it to the death. Also using it's razor sharp beak to slice large chunks of flesh, and severe vital veins and arteries of the deep sea behemoth.

These here are called tube worms. They live in the deep sea chimneys,blowers smokers, etc. they live in the current that keeps them warm and feed on sulfide minerals.The tube worms are ten feet long and live in groups. The two kinds of smokers are black and white.This one here is a black one. The white one blows out creamy,milky smoke.

The similarities is they both sustain life and are marine zones.The difference the Aphotic zone is dark and oppressive like Alaskan winter.The photic zone is alluring like Hawaiin summer. Another similarity is the benthos creatures attached to the floor.The photic zone has coral the Aphotic zone has tube worms
