SAFAVID

• The safavid empire lasted from 1501 to 1722
• They ruled over all of iran and parts of Turkey and Georgia
• The Safavid empire was a theocrcy
• -theocracy: a government ruled by or subject to religous authority

SAFAVID RELIGON

• They made Shi'a islam the main religon.
• They also supressed all the other religon in the area.
• Later the safavid people lunched a vigorous campaign .
• They did this because they wanted to covert what was left of the Sunni's in the area.
• The mebers of the Sunni ulama (a religous council of wise men) had eather left or were killed.

SAFAVID WOMEN

• They were 6 different types of women.
• They used the trem arranged marriage.
• When a woman is about to get married she will be protected up until her wedding night
• They allow for both women and men to have a divorce.

IRAN AFTER THE SAFAVID EMPIRE

• After the safavid empire the land was abandoned and decayed.
• During the year if 1925-79 the rise of Pahlavis saw the reaffirmation of a strong cenrtal authority.
• In the twentieth century and the interest of it to the British and the Americans determined the style
• And role of the second Pahlavi Shah.
• From the wealth he gained from thoil, it enabled him to head an opulent and corrupted court.

IRAN WEMON

• Wemon in iran today suffer from legal and cultural discriminations.
• Only 94% of iranian wemon attend schools. But only 60 % of all university graduates.
• They had to wear a chador. Its is a kind of black covering.
• Only 15% of wemon make up the working population.
• If you were married your husband can prevent you from working outside at home.

WEMON IN BOTH IRAN AND IN THE SAFAVIS EMPIRE

• Wemon in a safavid empire could get a devorice.
• Wemon in iran today can get married at the age of 13.
• When a woman give a testimony in cort they count that as half of a mans.
• Wemon in iran rank 92 out of 157.
• But wemon in safavid are ranked higher and are better respected.
