PRESENTATION OUTLINE

The Lever
A lever is a bar that rotates around a fixed point. An example of a lever would be sweeping leaves with a broom, b/c your hand is the pivot point, and the broom pivots on your hand. Another example would be a catapult, looking at it without the outsides, it is as simple as a lever. Also, a seesaw is another example of a lever, due to it being a straight up lever.

The Wedge
A wedge has a thick end, and a thin end, and is used to cut or separate things. An example of a wedge would be a hook. Another example of a wedge would be a Saw's teeth. Another example of a wedge would be an apple peeler.

The Pulley
A pulley is a wheel with a grooved rim, with a rope riding the rim. An example of a pulley would be the pulley in a flag pole. Another example would be pulleys in a climber kit, (Not all, but some). Another example of a pulley would be a zip line (A moveable pulley).

Wheel and Axle
A Wheel and Axle turn together, acting like a rotating collection of levers. An example of a Wheel and Axle, would be a Steering wheel of a car, because it can turn, and control the car's direction. Another example of a Wheel and Axle would be a steering wheel on a ship, and wheels on a bike.

The Screw
The screw is an inclined plane wrapped around a cylinder, and is used to fasten things together. One example of a screw would be a jar lid. Another example would be the worm gear, used as tuning mechanism. Another screw would be a acorn screw.

The Inclined Plane
An inclined plane is a sloped surface that makes lifting an object easier, because it supports part of the object. An example of an inclined plane would be a ramp, because it is easier for one to get up and down, rather than go up stairs. Another example would be a slide, and another example would be a non-steep hill.
