TESSELLATIONS ARE FOUND IN ?

  • Snakes, Turtles
  • Architectural design
  • Bee hives
  • Pineapples
  • Bottom of shoes

WHAT IS A TESSELATION

  • A pattern repeated to cover a plane
  • Does not overlap or have gaps
  • Fits perfectly together

SHAPES THAT TESSELATION

  • Interior angles add up to 360 or 160 degrees
  • No gaps or overlaps
  • Triangle, Square, Parallelogram, Hexagon

NON-TESSELATING SHAPES

  • Gaps or overlaps
  • Interior angels don't add up
  • To 360 or 180 degrees
  • Pentagon, Heptagon, Octagon

REFLECTIOIN

  • Draw a polygon that tesselates
  • On one side draw a line
  • Trace it on tracing paper
  • Flip it, Trace onto opposite side
  • On the remaining sides repeat 2-4

ROTATIONAL

  • Draw a polygon that tesselates
  • Draw a line
  • Trace it on tracing paper
  • Rotate 90 degrees to the next side
  • Repeat steps 2-4 on the remaining sides

TRANSLATION

  • Draw a polygon that tesselates
  • Draw a line
  • Trace it on tracing paper
  • Trace onto opposite side
  • Repeat 2-4 on remaining sides
