LOCATION

  • The Aztec lived in Tenochtitlan
  • They lived in a marsh in the middle of the lake
  • They settled in Mexico

  • The ancient Aztec got its structure from its units of society
  • They had something called calpulli
  • Families did not own their own land but was owned by groups of land
  • They did not rule everything but conquered lands had to pay tribute

  • Physical features are ... Swamps and valleys
  • A drawback was that they lived in swamps so they couldn't grow crops
  • A benifit was that they could catch fish in the swamps
  • Also they always migrated

  • It was very cold where the Aztecs lived

  • The Aztec used a method called terracing
  • The Aztec used chinampas for their crops and it was very useful
  • Chinampas were rectangular areas to grow crops on

  • Maize was one of the most important crops that the Aztec grew
  • Another important food was the beans
  • The beans were found in the chinampas

  • People would obey the governments laws in fear
  • Sometimes they would betray the government and turn on them
  • The leaders were Huey Tlatcani, Tenochtitlan and Tlacopan

  • The nobility and priesthood were very powerful but weren't in goverment position
  • In the early 1400s 3 city states formed the triple alliance
  • The 3 states were Tenochtitlan , Texococo , Tlacopan

  • Montezuma was an Aztec ruler
  • Acamapichtli was the first king or ruler
  • Tizoc was a very weak ruler

  • He was a powerful emperor
  • He did a couple of things

  • They believed the sun fought off darkness
  • They also believed that if they fed the sun blood it would rise
  • The Aztecs thought there were 13 heavens

  • They put strong efforts into their gods
  • They made temples to worship them
  • Like most others they believed in the afterlife as a great aspect to life

  • In the main temple they worshipped the rain god Tlaloc
  • To Them priest were very important
  • Sacrifice played a big roll for all Aztecs

INTERESTING FACTS

  • An interesting fact is that Aztecs were believed to of made chocolate
  • They were also known to be warlike because of all the people they killed
  • Most Aztecs were defeated by disease not by war
  • They would sell their children into slavery
