  • The Hindenburg was Nazi Germany's pride and joy
  • It spent one season ferrying passengers across the Atlantic in its luxurious belly
  • The following year, the airship ere screeched to a spectacular halt when the Hindenburg burst into flames
  • This event occurred while landing in Lakehurst, New Jersey
  • On May 6th the hindenburg Claimed 36 lives out of 97 and received an enormous amount of media coverage

  • Was a 245 meter (805 feet) long airship
  • Maximum speed 135km (84mph)
  • Launched in Friedrichshafen, Germany in March 1936
  • Was speculated as an anti-nazi act of sabotage
  • Designed to be filled with helium but was filled with flammable hydrogen

CAUSE

  • The fire was officially attributed to a discharge of
  • Atmospheric electricity in the vicinity of a hydrogen
  • Gas leak from the airship.
  • This disaster marked the end of the use of rigid airships
  • Especially for commercial transportation.
