The History Of ANZAC Day.

  • The ANZAC's landed in Gallipoli on 25.4 1915.
  • They ANZAC's were trying to capture the Dardanelles.
  • The ANZAC's landed in ANZAC cove.
  • They fought for nine months.
  • The ANZAC's and other allies were fighting against the Turkish.

History of ANZAC Day continued.

  • Over 120,000 soldiers died in this battle. 
  • 80,000 Turkish, 44,00 British and French, 85,00 and 2721 NZ soldiers died.
  • ANZAC stands for Australia and New Zealand Army Corps.
  • The poppy is a symbol of war remembrance.
  • Flanders field was the name given to  all WW1 battlefields

This Poem was written by Lieutenant Colonel John Mcrae

This verse is always read out at any ANZAC Day service ans is well known part of ANZAC Day.

Why do we celebrate ANZAC Day.

  • To remember all the soldiers who lost their lives fighting in Galliopoli.
  • It also honours those soldiers who returned safely
  • People can pay their respects to family members who have died in war. 
  • Time to think about current soldiers still serving overseas
  • To be proud of our country's history.
