DESCRIPTION OF THUNDERSTORMS

  • A thunderstorm is a storm with thunder and lightning and usually heavy rain
  • Thunderstorms happen year round but are most likely to occur in the spring and summer
  • Thunderstorms occur because of rapid upward air movement and the mosit air creating heavy clouds
  • Thunderstorms do happen in Wisconsin, they happen all over the world in almost every climate at some point

Effects of Weather
Depending on how severe the thunderstorm is people may take shelter.
If it is not too severe then people can go about their lives just drive carefully.
The effects it can have on the enviroment are lightning splitting trees or starting grass on fire. It can also cause flooding if the rain is heavy and fast enough.
The effect on animals can vary, some pets may be afraid of the thunder and shake and go to hide

Procedures
It is important to prepare because your lights could go out or flooding could happen.
You can prepare yourself by having candles and flashlights if the lights go out. Also have your basement properly insulated so you don't have so much water in the basement. If your driving drive carefully and with extract caution.

1. Thousands of years ago philosophers such as Aristotle believed that thunder was caused by the collision of clouds.
2. The average temperature of lightning is around 20000 °C (36000 °F).
3. Every thunderstorm has lightning.
4. The typical thunderstorm is 15 miles in diameter and lasts an average of 30 minutes.
5. Nearly 1,800 thunderstorms are happening at any moment around the world. That's 16 million a year
6. Lightning kills more people each year than tornadoes.
