ULTMATUMS IN WWI

GERMAN ULTIMATUM

• During the time of tension in WWI, Germany issued several ultimatum
• The goal of the ultimatum was to prevent any further entrance into the war
• Most if not all ultimatum failed, did not stop any entrances
• Issued to France and Russia by Germany

GERMAN ULTIMATUM: RUSSIA

• Because of the Austrian Invasion of Serbia, Russia began to mobilize troops
• As they did, Germany issued at ultimatum against Russia
• Ultimatum stated that if Russia entered... So would Germany
• Russia ignored the ultimatum and Russia declared war against central powers
• Germany them declared war against Russia

GERMAN ULTIMATUM: FRANCE

• Similar to Russia, France was issued an ultimatum by Germany
• This ultimatum demanded France tell Germany it's war plans should Germany and Russia go to war
• France never responded to this ultimatum
• As soon as Germany declared war on Russia, France began to mobilize

OTHER PLANS

• The Schlieffen plan was a plan to invade France through Belgium
• Belgium then called upon the signatories of the tready of 1839
• Treaty garenteed Belgium's neutrality in all conflicts
• Britian, as a signatory of the treaty, later declared war on Germany because of their invasion
