WPA PURPOSE

  • Many people had paid jobs
  • Men, women, or youth could join
  • Build parks, schools, or bridges
  • Buildings were also constructed

BENEFITS/EFFECTS

  • Most people benefited because of paid jobs
  • Most were unskilled workers
  • Color didn't matter/blacks could join freely
  • 3 million unemployed gained jobs by 1938
  • 8 million unemployed got jobs by 1943

  • More jobs
  • More money
  • More buildings and roads
  • More happiness

TODAY

  • Stopped today because it is not needed
  • WWII created a shortage of workers
  • 1943 was the last year of operation
  • "Liquidated" on June 30
