MEANS 'HUMAN BEING'

Where do they live?

HOUSING

  • They live in small villages
  • One large commune is called shabono
  • They re build it every 1 or 2 years
  • Up to 400 people can fit in one house

FOOD AND FARMING

  • Males are hunters and women are gatherers
  • Women grow plantains and grubs etc.
  • Men will go on long distance hunts

Threats
Over 1,000 gold-miners are now illegally on Yanomami land, transmitting deadly diseases like malaria and polluting the rivers and forests. The gold miners also bribed them with alcohol to control Yanomami's land.

FAMILY AND TRADITIONS

  • Marriage ceremonies are non existent
  • They marry to their relatives
  • A bride can be as young as the age of 5
  • Polygamous marriage
