JOHN QUINCY ADAMS

  • Son of Abigail and John Adams
  • Second president
  • Harvard graduate
  • Helped end the war of 1812

HENRY CLAY

  • Shrewd politician
  • Was a speaker
  • Skillful negotiator

ANDREW JACKSON

  • Had military victories
  • Born into poor farmers
  • Land owner and slave owner
  • Nicknamed as "old hickory"

Jackson won because of popular votes. Clay came in 4th. People did not think Jackson would make a good president because of his war past. They though he would be more of a general than a leader.
