History

  • Draco is know as the dragon constellation.
  • The name Draco comes from a Latin term know as "Draconem" which means huge serpent.
  • Draco represents Ladon the dragon that guarded Hesperides gardens which contained golden apples.
  • Draco was listed in the 48 constellations by 2nd century ptolemy and is in the current 88 constellations today.

Description

  • The shape of draco is a dragon.
  • Near by space objects include the cats eye nebula. Which is a expanding sphere of hot gas ejected by a dying star.

Location in the sky

  • Draco revolves around the north pole. Which means it can only be spotted in the Northern Hemisphere.
  • The easiest way to spot draco is to find the four stars that form the trapeziod. which is north from hercules.
  • Then the tail goes through the sky and ends between the big and little dipper.
