He was a lawyer, politician and revolutionary.
He was the most popular speaker and agitators of the revolution of 1848.
After he moved to the United States
He became brigade commander in the Union Army during the American Civil War.

After moving to the United States, Hecker was still involved in Germany.
He returned to participate.
In the spring of 1849, the Baden revolution re-ignited
He was defeated then returned to Illinois.

The revolution broke out, Struve published a demand for a federal republic
