PRESENTATION OUTLINE

SMART GOALS,NEEDS AND WANTS, AND VALUES

  • A goal is something that someone sets for them self to accomplish, example could be getting a 3.0 gpa by turning in all assignments.
  • A need is something necessary or required a want is something unnecessary but desired. A need could be water or food and a want could be a phone.
  • A value is something that is desirable,worthwhile, and important. An example could be family,friends,honestly, and loyalty.

VISUAL LEARNING

  • If you are a visual learner, you learn by reading or seeing pictures.
  • An example would be for me to sit in front of the class room so i can see everything that goes on.

AUDITORY LEARNING

  • If you are an auditory learner, you learn by hearing and listening.
  • An example would be to have your hearing checked on a regular basis to be able to hear what you need to hear.

TACTILE LEARNING

  • If you are a tactile learner, you learn by touching and doing. You understand and remember things through physical movement.
  • An example of tactile learning would be such as in basketball instead of being a visual learner and seeing the play you would want to actually be in the play and do it yourself.

NEGATIVE SELF-ESTEEM

  • Negative self-esteem is not being able to believe in yourself.
  • An example for myself could be me saying I have an exam coming up and I think I am going to fail it.

SELF CONCEPT VS.SELF ESTEEM

  • Self concept: how you see yourself
  • Self-esteem: how you feel about yourself
  • For self concept an example could be saying you could do anything you want to.
  • For self esteem I could hangout with friends that build my self esteem.

POSITIVE SELF-ESTEEM

  • Positive self esteem is how you feel about yourself in a positive way.
  • An example for myself could be me having a big math test and saying I am going to ace it.

MANAGING TIME

  • Having a way of controlling your schedule throughout your day.
  • An example is, making a schedule and setting timers to remind yourself.

STUDY SKILLS

  • Study skills are ways you can organize studying time and how you study.
  • An example for myself could be rewriting notes,flash cards, and studying with a friend.

FIGHT VS. FLIGHT

  • Fight: is dealing with the situation.
  • Flight: is avoiding the situation and not dealing with it.
  • An example for fight like facing your problem and fighting someone.
  • An example for flight would be isolating yourself from anyone and not talking to anyone.

DEPRESSION

  • Feelings of severe feelings sadness or heartbreak.
  • An example would be if one of my family members die or if me and my girlfriend break up.

SUICIDE

  • When people think they don't belong in the world and are better off dead.
  • If I overdose or intentionally harms their self on purpose.

RAPE

  • Being forced to do sexually interactive things.
  • If I was forced to do something I didn't want to do sexually.

CONSTRUCTIVE VS. DESTRUCTIVE

VERBAL VS. NONVERBAL

  • Verbal is speaking to someone with your mouth.
  • Nonverbal is using motions with your hands or texting someone.
  • If I was talking to someone with words and having a conversation that would be verbal.
  • If I was texting my friend something and not speaking or using hand motions to tell him what to do or something.

GOSSIP

  • When someone is talking behind your back without you knowing.
  • If I was talking about my friend saying I don't like him and he's stupid to another person without him knowing.

HOW TO BREAK UP RESPECTFULLY

  • Breaking up with your boyfriend/girlfriend in a nice way without trying to hurt their feelings horribly.
  • If I broke up with my girlfriend I would do it respectfully and tell her it's not working out I am too busy for a relationship but maybe we could still be friends.

DATING

  • Being happy with your partner and enjoying your relationship.
  • If I was dating someone and we went out together and were very close and trusted each other.

UNHEALTHY RELATIONSHIPS

  • An example would be if in your relationship you guys are beating each other or constantly always fighting.
  • If I was in a relationship and I beat my girlfriend up that would be unhealthy.

REFLECTION PARAGRAPH

  • These slides are all examples and definitions of everything that we went over in the basic living skills class. I have personal examples and definitions of all 21 subjects. These helped me make my life easier and better I even Know how to study easier and better. It goes over the subjects goal settings,wants and needs,multiple intelligences,learning styles,decision making, self concept, time and stress management, crisis management, communication, and relationships.
