WHAT IS METH?

  • Meth's chemical formula is C10H12N
  • Meth is made with common household products
  • Meth can be swallowed, snorted, injected, or absorbed through the gums

  • Meth is "cooked" in homemade labs
  • Meth includes things like cough medicine and batteries
  • Methlabs are usually mobile to avoid authorities
  • Due to extreme flammability, methlabs can burn down quick and easily
  • Meth production has become a "family tradition" for some cooks

WHAT ARE THE CONSEQUENCES?

  • When taken, meth causes:
  • Sicknesses and diseases when not using sterile equipment
  • The user usually becomes more aggressive
  • Tendency to increase talkativeness
  • One pound of meth creates 5-7 pounds of toxic waste

WHY DO PEOPLE DO METH?

  • Peer pressure
  • High lasts for 12 hours after one hit
  • Methamphetamine creates a euphoria upon use
  • Drug increases alertness and sharpens focus

HOW DO YOU BECOME ADDICTED?

  • When you take meth, it releases dopamine in your brain
  • Dopamine makes you very happy
  • When meth is out of the system, dopamine cannot naturally regenerate
  • Some do meth again because their body cannot regenerate dopamine

THE LAWS

  • Meth is the second most addictive drug recorded
  • Unless obtained by prescription, the distribution of meth is illegal
  • If you are caught with illegal meth, you can be put in jail for ten years and fined up to 10k
  • If you are caught multiple times, you can be jailed harsher and fined up to 7 million dollars
