Counselor Functions

Counselor Function

Ms. Bond expressed that counselors wear many hats and at times it can get very overwhelming. She also states that this type of work cannot be a job. Counseling has to be considered your passion something you love to do. Each counselor receives their caseload by alphabetical order. DeAnna explains how she had students with the last name letters beginning with H-K. DeAnna did not really care for this method. She felt they should be divided by grade, and grade needed attention because of the level of concerns for that class. This method allows your caseload to vary from 50-100 students. ? Ms. Bond also shared how counselors oversee different concern in the office. Each counselor is given area of concern. For example, one counselor handles all mental health issues. Another counselor will oversee Comprehensive Student Assistance Process (CSAP). In addition, we also have counselors who are in charge of the teen parents program and students who may be in the Juvenile Justice System. ASCA SCHOOL COUNSELOR MODEL

DeAnna addressed this question honestly, no not in thepast. The Philadelphia School District is using the ASCA model more than ever before. At a school district counselor meeting they were told the ASCA model was not mandatory. DeAnna believes that it is beneficial and excellent idea. Which will bring more order in the school? Everyone will understand their role and how to perfect it. By enhancing their skills this will help the school to have a single school culture. lick to add more text here

Counselor Outlook on Daily Task and Time Management

1. DeAnna feels that she is taken out of her job description. The only reason I doesn’t complain is that she believes it is for the betterment of the student. Her colleagues believe that they wear too many hats; but in her belief you can never have enough hats. DeAnna states that is a hard one for her to answer. Everything you do is considered a priority except lunch. So you really have to find your own style. Give yourself time lines or days to do certain tasks. It will always be something that takes you off course.

Essential Skills For Counselors

ent. I will never be able to relax while at work so I can never say I am bored. DeAnna also told me it is a rewarding job and we should be acknowledged more for our deeds. I shared with her my work environment and she laughed at some of the things I have experienced and told me you made a difference and you don’t even know it. This job to her is more than a job, it is her passion and you will never stay in your lane. She believes we are the glue that keeps the school together. One thing that really stuck out with me at our interview was that she doesn’t let anything bother her. She said if she does it will stop her progress.
