PRESENTATION OUTLINE
DID I MENTION I LOVE YOU?
-Contrasts and Contradictions-
Instead of following his normal introvert behavior, Tyler surprisingly opens up to Eden. I think Tyler acts this way because he finally feels comfortable enough to trust Eden. The contrasts of the characters help us to better understand them by surprising us and therefore, preventing us from getting used to the same behavioral patterns. Contrasts in situations help us predict the plot as they open our minds up to new possibilities and ideas for the future story.
-Again and Again-
Throughout the novel, the characters are described as repeatedly “furrowing their eyebrows". The author repeatedly uses this facial expression to demonstrate attitude and tension between people, thus impacting the overall mood and development of characters.
-Memory Moment-
Eden has many memory moments as she reminisces on the people and life she had prior to moving to Los Angeles for the summer. These memories are important because they provide her character with a backstory, and they help to develop the overall theme of “being the new kid".
-Aha Moment-
The protagonist, Eden, has a big “aha moment" when she realizes and concludes specific facts about Tyler, the boy she likes. This not only develops Tyler's character, but also affects and changes the plot as she spends the rest of the story battling the internal conflict of tainted love.
-Tough Questions-
One of Eden's toughest questions is, “How can I tell him everything is going to be okay when it seems like nothing will be?”. This, and the many other tough questions of the novel, display interal conflict and leads the reader to wonder what Eden will do or say, and what will happen in the end.
-Words of the Wiser-
In my story, there were no words or advice from an older character. Most of the protagonists problems were kept a secret, so she had to handle them on her own. This further emphasized the internal conflict and affected her in a negative way. The life lesson in this is to consult someone you trust, so you don't have to handle things on your own.
