HEPATITIS B

What?
HBV is a liver infection that is caused by the Hepatitis B virus (HBV)

Who?
About 90% of infected infants become chronically infected

2-6% of adults

Most common in Asia, Africa, and South America

CDC estimated that 800,000 to 1.4 million people in the U.S. had the virus

How?
People can get this virus by sharing needles, sexual contact, syringes and other drug injection equipment.

It can also be spread from mother to baby in birth

Symptoms?
Mild pain in the abdomen, fatigue through the whole body, fluid in the abdomen, yellow skin and eyes, and dark urine or itching is also common.

Complications?
If the mother has HBV the mother can give the virus to the baby.

Treatable?
Within two weeks of getting the virus the doctor will give you a vaccine of hepatitis B immune globulin it helps you fight of infection it doesn't cure the infection and it treats the liver.

Preventable?
Get vaccinated ( if you haven't already been infected)

Cover all open cuts or wounds (don not touch others body fluids)

Don't share razors, toothbrushes, nail care products or pierced earrings with anyone
