  • Words you don't know
  • Passages you don't understand
  • What is the theme?

2. MAKE CONNECTIONS

  • Note passages that remind you of: personal experiences; historical events; current events; other stories, movies, songs, et cetera...

3. ANALYZE

  • Ask, "Why did a character do this?"
  • Ask, "Why did the author include this?"
  • Answer the question!

4. EVALUATE

  • Make note of what you LIKED about the author's style
  • Make note of what you DISLIKED about the author's style
  • How well did the author get his or her theme across?
