charlie

  • Dies at the end.
Charlie stood up for what was right in his mind. Charlie didn’t care if he was being yelled at and took the punishment even though he and everyone else knew he had done the right thing. This reveals that Charlie is a strong person, standing up for what is right and doesn’t care what anyone else thinks about him.

Thomas

  • The youngest of the peaceful family
  • Adores charlie
  • Is jealous of charlie's and molly's relationship
  • thinks his father's death is his fault
  • is very shy compared to Charlie

big ideas

  • Everyone should be able to go to school and get an education 
  • Everyone should be treated the same (not by poor or rich) 
  • Those who are different (disability) should be treated the exact same way
  • Life was tough for the poor
  • Many people were persuaded to go to war? (Didn't have a choice)
1) so everyone can be treated the same and not by their class.

mr munnings

  • Is very strict
  • Reminds Charlie of Sergeant Hanley
  • Is very malicious and belts the children often
  • Is the principal of the school and is in charge
  • Has a thunderous voice.

the colonel

  • owns most of the town
  • his wife died
  • owns the Peacefuls' household
  • Dating Grandma Wolf
  • Makes Charlie go to war or else he will evict the Peacefuls'

society based on class

  • poor and rich are separated
  • Many rich people wouldn't of liked their (notes)
  • There was an upper class and lower class
  • Many of the lower class people worked as (notes)
  • A river would often separate the two classes

  • Is always at the Peaceful's household
  • Works at the 'Big House"
  • Had scarlet fever
  • Has a son with Charlie called Tommo
  • Has a close relationship with Mother

world war 1 (ww1)

  • The punishments were harsh
  • Many people died
  • Court martial's weren't fair
  • Each country were fair toward each other
  •  You were called a coward if you didn't join

Sergeant hanley

  • Is the leader of the army corp
  • Is a bit of  coward 
  • always thinks he is right towards decisions
  • is a part of Charlie's death punishment
  • Tortures the boys who dare to defy him
