POSING QUESTION

WHAT EFFECT DOES ADDING SODA HAVE ON THE SOLUTION RATE?

HYPOTHESIS

  • If soda is added to the water on an effervescent tablet, then the tablet will expand and the solution rate will increase

Procedure
We first poured 300 ml of water into a beaker. Then we dropped the effervescent tablet in the liquid and timed the solution rate. We repeated this three times. Then, we poured 300 ml of water into a beaker, and 500ml of soda into the same beaker. We dropped the effervescent tablet in the liquid and timed the solution rate. We repeated this three times.

MATERIALS

  • 500 ml beaker
  • Water
  • Soda
  • Six effervescent tablets
  • Timer

We concluded that our hypothesis was correct. We are accepting this hypothesis because the two averages of the trials showed that the solution rate increased when water was mixed with soda.
