OBEDIENCE TO THE FATHER

Three Types
of OBEDIENCE:

FEAR-BASED OBEDIENCE

FEAR-BASED OBEDIENCE

  • the fear of suffering negative consequences
  • This is biblical

DUTY-BASED OBEDIENCE

DUTY-BASED OBEDIENCE

  • obedience that does not feel God’s presence
  • God’s Word requires that we obey God
  • we obey even when we don't feel inspired to do so

AFFECTION-BASED OBEDIENCE

AFFECTION-BASED OBEDIENCE

  • flows from experiencing Father's affection for us
  • then giving it back to Him
  • It is the strongest kind of obedience
  • results in the deepest and most consistent obedience
  • A lovesick person endures anything for love

You being rooted and grounded in love, may be able to comprehend…the width, length, depth and height--
to know the love of Christ which passes knowledge… (Eph. 3:17-19)

As the Father loved Me, I also have loved you; abide in My love. If you keep My commandments, you will abide in My love, just as I have kept My Father's commandments and abide in His love. These things I have spoken to you, that My joy may remain in you, and that your joy may be full. (Jn. 15:9-11)
