Athens were the in the highest class in the Social Structure. They possessed the most power and position. They characterize a good civil character, artistic taste, and highly socialized individuals.

The Metics were in the middle class. These people were not natives of Athens, but came Athens to settle down. They came to Athens earning their livelihood. They were freemen, they were not slaves, but they possessed very little rights compared to the Upper Class.

Freedmen were once slaves, but somehow they were freed by their owner. They did not belong to the Athens. They were not granted citizenship for their life what so ever money they earned. They possessed the least amount of privileges, but still got a few.

Slaves were the lowest class in the Social Structure. Actually lowest level because they didn't consider them as a class. These people were rescued from war, and some bought them. Slaves didn't even possess a life of their own, they possessed zero. There were very were Greeks as slaves. They had to pay a lot of money for their freedom.
