BOBBY SANDS THE HUNGER STRIKES
In May 1972, provisional Ira prisoners in crum road jail , Northern Ireland started a hunger strike for the right to be treated as ' prisoners of war '
Bobby sands was the leader of the hunger strike in 1981, which was when the Irish republican prisoners protested.
His death and nine other deaths of the people who followed the hunger strikes where followed by a new type of ira recruitment and activity .
The 1981 hunger strike all started when bobby sands ( the leader ) refused to eat food on March 1981 .
Bobby Sands
decided that the other prisoners should join in with his hunger strike . ( which they did )
The hunger strike revolved around five demands
THE DEMANDS
- The right not to wear prison uniform
- The right not to do prison work
- The right for free comunicatioon with other prisoners
- The right to revive a letter or parcel once a week
- Full restoration lost through the protest
