BANANAS

  • Bananas are grown in Latin America, Southeast Asia, Caribbean and West Africa.
  • There is currently 24,500 banana farmers and 63 certified co-operatives and 43 certified plantations.
  • 100,000 metric tonnes of bananas are consumed and 15 million are exported every year.
  • Developing countries rely on these products to bring in money.

  • Coffee is grown in Brazil, Vietnam, Columbia, Indonesia and Mexico.
  • Developing countries rely on these products to bring in money.
  • There are currently 660,700 coffee farmers globally through 402 fair trade coffee producers.
  • 400,000 metric tonnes of coffee is produced every year.

  • Coffee and bananas are both grown in developing countries that rely on the money.
  • There are more metric tonnes of produced/exported coffee than bananas.
  • There are more fair trade certified coffee farmers than fair trade banana farmers.

  • A fair trade ice cream company called Ben and Gerri's made a plan, on my birthday, to move from non-fair trade ingredients to fair trade ingredients.
  • Ben and Gerri's ice cream company think that they can improve the lives of farmers. They also think that they can strengthen communities by being a part of fair trade globally.

NO, TIPTOP DO NOT PRODUCE FAIR TRADE ICE CREAM

  • They use natural colours and flavours.
  • They use local ingredients such as milk and fresh cream, however they have removed Palm Oil which helps the Orangutangs.
