Socialism: A system where the people can own or control parts of factories, utilities, etc through the government.

SOCIALISM

  • Came from people believing in the equality of all people
  • Came from wanting to replace competition with cooperation in industries
  • Created from horrible conditions from the industrial revolution
  • Early socialists were called utopians (ideas were impractical dreams)

  • Believed that in a cooperative environment, we would show their natural goodness
  • Formed 2 communities:
  • 1. New Lanark in Scotland (flourished) , 2. New Harmony in Indiana (failed)
