Jonathan Harker, a solicitor, goes to Transylvania to help a count named Dracula with his new estate. Dracula is actually a very old vampire. He and his friends kill Dracula.
The story of Dracula is an arrangement of journal entries by many different people. The story begins with a man named Jonathan Harker, a solicitor, who goes to Transylvania to help a man named Dracula with his new estate.
Before arriving at Transylvania Dracula sends him to see the sites. He goes to a couple hotels and learns about the people's very superstitious ways. He goes to a hotel named The Golden Krone where he meets the landlady of his room. A very superstitious person who knows of the count. she tells him to be careful and gives him a crucifix for protection.
Jonathan goes to the count's castle after a very long carriage ride in the dark. The castle is very empty, has no mirrors and seems to only be accompanied by the two. Jonathan becomes unnerved by the sight of the count's missing reflection and very suspicious ways so he starts to adventure the castle to see who the count really is. During his exploration he finds out that he is locked in the castle.
After an unsettling dinner the count warns Jonathan about sleeping anywhere but his room. He says that if he falls asleep in a room that is not his bedroom, he will have bad dreams. One day dracula leaves and Jonathan goes to the parlor. He falls asleep in there only to wake to three women trying to suck his blood. Dracula comes back and is furious with the three girls.
The journal entries change from Jonathan's to a man named Dr. Seward. He runs a lunatic asylum and in this asylum he studies a particular man named R.M. Reinfield. He is a patient in the asylum who is very different than the other patients. He is very intelligent but uses his intelligence for odd experiments. He sees life as a eat or be eaten world and proves it by catching flies, feeding it to spiders, feeding the spiders to sparrows, and wanting to feed the sparrows to kittens. The doctor would not give him a kitten so Reainfield ate the sparrow himself.
