DAY 1: ABOUT FACE

  • Smile more!
  • Keep a pleasant, encouraging face
  • Even if the going gets rough

DAY 2: HAVE FUN

  • Use humor in your teaching
  • Use movement in your lessons
  • Have fun teaching!

DAY 3: COMPLIMEMT

  • Compliment specifically and sincerely
  • Give at least 3 throughout the day
  • Offer to students who challenge your positivity
  • Bonus: give to 3+ colleagues too

DAY 4: DO THE DO'S

  • Focus on the right instead of the wrong
  • Replace the "don't" statements
  • Use "do" statements instead
  • Bonus: use coupling statements
  • Example: you're standing, please sit down

DAY 5: PHONE HOME

  • Make three parent calls
  • Praise and encourage
  • Develop partnership

DAY 6: GIVE GRACE

  • Be a model of grace to your students
  • Offer grace to someone who has made a mistake
  • Give grace even if they don't deserve it at the time
  • Bonus: notice when others give YOU grace

DAY 7: TEACH THE SKILL

  • Start the day with a BBR skill lesson
  • Pick a skill your class needs to improve
  • (Use your ring of BBR cards)
  • Recite the steps of the skill
  • Revisit the skill throughout the day

DAY 8: DIFFUSE

  • Keep an eye out for potential emotional eruptions
  • Deescalate the situation before it's a problem
  • Remain calm and positive
  • Allow struggling students to "save face"
  • Privately re-teach and redirect

DAY 9: OFFER CHOICES

  • Empower students by offering choices
  • Choices invite ownership and buy-in
  • Choices can deescalate ange
  • Make sure the choices given are acceptable
  • (All choices should be a "win" for the teacher)

DAY 10: TRANSITION

  • Smooth transitions feed your educational climate
  • Teach a specific transition strategy
  • Strategies: verbal cue, music, timer, incentive, etc
  • Revisit and be clear of expectations for transitions
  • Practice. Praise.
