10 Things Graduates Should know before

working In a full service Kitchen

1) Know you have a passion for cooking

Cooking takes a lot of time, so make sure it is what you want to spend your free time on.

2) Know what type of food you want to cook

If you get into a field of cooking you do not like, you will not have fun.

3) You will never be able to please everyone.

Everyone has their own palate, so you may please some, but never all.

4) Be ready to get stressed out

Working in the fast pass food industry is a stressful job, it has long hours, and you may not like everyone you work with.

5) Be ready to learn from the elders in the kitchen

They have been there the longest and know how everything should be done.

6) Have some kitchen know how

Have a basic knowledge of kitchen terms, and how to use common equipment.

7) Everyone makes mistakes

If you make a mistake just do two things with it:
1. Know it wont be your last
2. Learn from it and move on

8) Dress properly

You will need to have good shoes, because you will be standing for long periods of time, and you will need a hat to keep hair out of food.

9) Everyone has to start at the bottom to get to the top.

You wont start out as the head cook, or chef, but the longer you work at it the better the job will get

10) Finally have fun

If you don't have fun, then time will drag on, and you will bring down the mood in the kitchen
