Meaning of Naphtali

• The name Naphtali means my wrestlings (not like the picture shown :)0.
• The name meaning my wrestlings was chosen for this son because of the events that occur in Genesis 30:2-8 (read).

• You can find Jacobs prophecy for Naphtali at Genesis 49:21 (read).
• When it says that "he is speaking words of elegance" it is talking about Jesus who fulfilled this prophecy by using appealing words as he taught others the truth in Capernaum (territory of the tribe of Naphtali).

• When Jacob described the tribe of Naphtali as a "slender doe" or slender hind, it refers to the skill and swiftness that the tribe would have during warfare. One great army leader, Barak, was a Naphtalite. When Barak called to battle against the army of Sisera, the Naphtalites (along with the Zebulunites) responded with 10,000 able-bodied men.

The tribe of Naphtali was surrounded by the tribes of Zebulun (mommy's tribe!), Issachar, and Asher (Jazzy's tribe!).
Naphtali was in the Northern part of the promised land- to the west of the Sea of Galilee and the Jordan River, the east of Asher territory, north of the tribes Issachar and Zebulun, and south of the Arameans. Naphtali's city of refuge was Kedesh. The land in the tribe of Naphtali was mountainous and fertile.
