HISTORY

  • Connecticut was founded by Thomas Hooker.
  • He didn't like how Winthrop ran Massachusetts so he left.
  • Thomas Hooker found Connecticut in 1636.

GEOGRAPHY

  • Connecticut is located south of Massachusetts, west of Rhode Island, east and north of New York
  • Connecticut is part of the New England region.
  • Mountains thick with trees, many rivers, and poor rocky soil.
  • Because of the rocky soil farmers could only raise corn, pumpkin, and squash.
  • People moved many ideas, and sicknesses.

ECONOMY

  • The colony connecticut's major exports were flour, dried meat, fish, rum,
  • and iron bars.
  • The native Americans traded furs for guns, blankets, and iron pots.
  • The Connecticut people had a big industry for ship building.
  • They manufactured rum.

GOVERNMENT

  • Because of the fundamental orders of Connecticut established in 1639.
  • Connecticut had a representative government.
  • If you were a Caucasian male you had to be 21 in order to vote.
  • John Haynes was the first governor of Connecticut.
  • Puritan was the most influential within the economy.

  • The colony did allow religious freedom that is why Thomas hooker left Massachusetts.
  • Native Americans went to war with and against Connecticut.
