PRESENTATION OUTLINE

13 REASONS WHY

ACCEL ENGLISH 10, PART 2

Summary
There was a mysterious box awaiting Clay Jenson on his porch, from his return from school. He later discovers inside the box, cassette tapes recorded by Hannah Baker, who had committed suicide two weeks before. Hannah explains in the tapes that there were thirteen reasons why she decided to end her life. Clay finds out that he is one of the reasons "why," and if he listens to the tapes, he will find out just how he made her list. This book is a quick read that you are unable to put down. Although it is short, it obtains a greater meaning of the cause and effect of people's actions.

RATING

I RATE THIS BOOK A 4 OUT OF 5

I would rate it a four out of five because, it was a very intense read and kept me on my toes. It also explained in a deeper meaning; such as, the cause and effect of people’s actions. It showed that every little thing you do counts somehow in a bigger way and has more of an effect then you may think. Hannah has experienced the worst of people’s actions in her life. Enough so, that it eventually drove her to taking her own life.

"You don’t know what goes on in anyone’s life but your own. And when you mess with one part of a person’s life, you’re not messing with just that part. Unfortunately, you can’t be that precise and selective. When you mess with one part of a person’s life, you’re messing with their entire life. Everything. . . affects everything" (Asher 201-202).

This is my favorite passage because I believe that this is the true message in the book. The fact that everything you do can change someone’s life forever is incredible, sometimes in not such a good way. If we were able to realize what an effect we had and control our actions, we could be able to prevent things like suicide from happening.
