15TH AMENDMENT

"Right of citizens of the United States shall not be denied or abridged by the United States, or by any state on account of race, color, or previous condition of servitude."

After the Civil War the nation was torn between allowing/ not allowing black people the right vote. The Northern states were at a stalemate with 17 yes's and 4 no's all eyes turned to the Southern states who had not yet been let back into the Union. After some voting and stuff the amendment was ratified in 1870.

The K Klux Klan refused to see black people as equals. They held rally's and performed lynchings to prove their stance.
