Ozone

A form of oxygen that combines three oxygen atoms into each molecule.

Tropospher

  • The bottom layer, where temperature decreases with an increase in altitude.

Stratophere

  • Beyond the troposphere is the stratosphere, where the temperature remains constant to a height of about 20 kilos.

Mesosphere

  • Temperatures again decrease with height until the mesopause.

Thermosphere

  • A layer that contains only a tiny fraction of the atmosphere's mass.

heat

  • The energy transferred from one object to another becuase of a difference in their temperatures.

Temperature

  • Measure of the average kinetic energy of the individual atoms or molecules in a substance.

COnduction

  • The transfer of heat through matter by molecular activity.

Convection

  • The transfer of heat by mass movement or circulation within a substance.

Radiation

  • Travels out in all directions from its source.

Scattering

  • Produces a larger number of weaker rays that travel in different directions.

Albedo

  • The fraction of total radiation that is reflected by any surface.

isotherm

  • Lines that connect points that have the same temp.
