  • Mitchell Palmer raided many privately owned places
  • Arrested over four thousand people who were believed to be communist
  • Did not have an official warrant

SACCO AND VENZETTI TRIALS

  • Found guilty of first degree murder committed during a bank robbery
  • Observers thought to be because of their political beliefs and family backgrounds

KU KLUX KLAN

  • First kick founded in 1866
  • Were anti catholic and anti communist
  • Second KKK became known nation wide by the mid 1920's
  • Murdered many African Americans, Catholics,

AUTOMOBILE

HENERY FORD

  • Founded the ford motor company
  • Helped establish the assembly line technique for mass production
  • Became one of the richest and most well known people of the world

ASSEMBLY LINE

  • A process in which parts are added in a sequential manner

RISE OF NEW INDUSTRIES

  • More industries had to start because of the car
  • Car parts had to be made in order for the workers to have a job
  • Each part of the car had its own industry
  • Ex: motor companies, rubber companies, glass companies

SCOPES MONKEY TRIAL

  • High school teacher , John Scopes, accused of violation the butler act
  • Found guilty, fined $100--> overturned on a technicality

WILLIAM JENNINGS BRYAN

  • Argued for prosecution of john scopes
  • Died 5days after the end of the case in his sleep

CLARENCE DARROW

  • American lawyer
  • Spoke for scopes in the scopes monkey trial

THE OUTCOME

  • Many states changed their laws that eliminated the butler act
  • This allowed students to be taught about evolution

  • Prohibited the making/selling, importing, and exporting of alcoholic beverages

FLAPPERS

  • Snuck alcohol into speak-easies during the prohibition
  • Strapped a flask to the inner thigh
  • Known as promiscuous 😏

SPEAK-EASIES

  • Establishment that sells alcoholic beverages illegally
  • Some operated by people who participated in organized crime
  • Usually under ground, not spoken about much
  • Now known as retro bars

ORGANIZED CRIME

  • Unlawful activity for profit as a whole city
  • Ex American mobsters

THE 21ST ADMENDNENT

  • Repealed the 18th amendment
  • Took effect on December 5th 1933
  • Allowed the state to determine alcohol laws for themsselves
