Chinese Immigration to Canada

They came from San Francisco following the gold rush to the Fraser River Valley in 1858.In the 1860s many chinese people moved for the purpose of gold in the Cariboo Mountains in British Columbia.

From 1880 to 1885 around
17,000 chinese workers helped to build the dangerous and difficult British Columbia section of the railway.

In 1923, Canada stopped Chinese immigration to come here and chinese canadians recognized this day as ''Humiliation Day''. Unfortunately this Act was placed for more than 20 years.
