  • President of the United States from 1961-1963
  • New Frontier for space and military expansion
  • Assassinated on November 22, 1963 in Dallas,Texas by Lee Harvey Oswald

CUBAN MISSILE CRISIS

  • USSR attempted to move nuclear missiles into Cuba
  • USA setup a blockade
  • Situation is resolved when the US agrees to remove missles from Turkey.

CIVIL RIGHTS MOVEMENT

  • Minorities work together to gain rights in areas such as; voting, housing, jobs ,and many others

MALCOM X

  • Civil Rights leader
  • Supported in using violence to gain rights
  • Assassinated in Harlem while giving a speech

MARTIN LUTHER KING JR

  • Civil rights leader
  • He used nonviolent civil disobedience to gain rights
  • Assassinated on April 4, 1968 by James Earl Ray
  • Massive rioting followed his assassination

VIETNAM WAR

  • 1955-1975
  • US fought with South Vietnam against North Vietnam
  • Fought to stop the spread of communism
  • Ended in 1975 when Saigon ,South Vietnam's Capitol, fell

COUNTERCULTURE

  • Mostly white middle class youths
  • Went against societal norms
  • Opposed the Vietnam war

ERA

  • Equal Rights Ammendment
  • Proposed Ammendment to the US constitution to guarantee equal rights to women
  • Fell 3 states short of ratification
