CONDITIONS
Chicano children received inferior education
Over 50% of Chicano students were kicked out of schools b/c of their lack in reading and writing skills
There were also overcrowded classrooms, insensitive teachers, few Chicano teachers, and less access to extra curricular activities

ACTIONS
In East LA students decided to take action
Created strike committees at Garfield, Roosevelt, and Lincoln High, along with a central committee between the schools
Formulated 36 demands for better schooling
Walked out of school, March 1-8
4.
OBSTACLES
Plan went awry (students walked out too early)
Police struck protesters
13 activists were arrested
5.
ACHIEVEMENTS
Walkout caused creation of EICC which pressed schools to be more responsive to Chicanos/as
Promoted Chicano activists in LA and across America to take action
The East LA walkout methods spread
