Historical Events:
In the 1960's the popular trend was the "hippy" look. Some clothing pieces carried over to the 1970's from the earlier decade. Some of these carried over trends were: bell-bottomed jeans, long flowing dresses, etc.)

In the United States, from 1972 to 1974, fashions were inspired by extravagantly dressed glam rock stars such as David Bowie, Roxy Music, and Marc Bolan. These fashion styles included tight pants, glitter, crop tops, etc.

Polyester was the material of choice and bright colors were everywhere. Tight pants and platform shoes were a must in many fashion looks. Overall, the 1970's fashion was very flamboyant.
