PRESENTATION OUTLINE

1984/CNN

BY MARYBETH STANZIOLA AND KAYLA MCCARTNEY

In 1984, the government implements fear upon the citizens of Oceania. They also forced that their government was the supreme and is the best. With the American presidential election coming up, many media platform are endorsing a particular candidate, which can persuade citizens. We chose this topic since It is very relevant in our country, especially with the 2016 presidential election coming up in November. People need to care about this topic since media-manipulation is real in America, not as forced as it is in 1984 but it is still a problem. Citizens should care about who is running the nation and they should have their own opinions.

1984:
In the novel 1984 by George Orwell, the government of Oceania had taken control of their people by forcing fear into them. This book takes political bias to a new high as Oceania government endorse the political figured “ Big Brother “ to the citizens.

Some examples of the ways Oceania's government persuaded people are:

Through having large posters of Big Brother on almost all building

By running TV programs about him all the time

By holding rallies on a regular basis and by making citizens attend/participate in them

By watching every citizens every move and punishing them if someone disagree with Big Brother

CNN/FOX news
With a tight presidential elections coming up later this year, popular news stations are deciding who they want to endorse. With CNN endorsing Hilary Clinton and FOX supporting the conservative candidates,it's unclear which will come out victorious.
