George Stevenson, famous for his production of Rocket, the celebrated early steam locomotive, designed the improved steam engine. It used a multi-tube boiler in the steam engine. This meant it could generate a much greater amount of steam.
The success of the new engine prompted other companies to start building railways. Within 30 years, Britain had thousands of miles of track. Railways were built to move goods and materials throughout Britain and from British ports around the world. Many people consider Rocket to be the forerunner of all steam locomotives and a key factor in the advance of the Industrial Revolution.
