CAMP CHELMNO

  • Camp Chelmno open in December, 1941 and resumed operation in April 1943.
  • Camp Chelmno closed down in April 1944 and resumed operation in 1945.
  • Camp Chelmno was also known to the Germans as "Vernichtungslager Kulmholf".
  • Camp Chelmno is located about 70 km from Ladz.
  • Camp Chelmno is about the same size as a small town.

CAMP CHELMNO

  • Camp Chelmno is a death camp.
  • Mostly the Jews and Nazis.
  • They were treated like crap, the Jews were being killed by gas.
  • Not really they just made them work until it was their time to be sentenced to death.
  • Herbert Lange ran Camp Chelmno.
  • It is suppose to hold up to about 340,000 Jews, but it only held up to about 300,000 Jews.

CAMP CHELMNO

  • About 300,000 Jews went through Camp Chelmno
  • About 299,993 Jews died because only 7 Jews survived.
  • Camp Chelmno closed down.
  • The prisoners (Jews) had to eat watery soup, and in the evening they were eat black bread with a tiny bit of sausage, margarine or cheese.
  • They were striped white and blue uniform (or striped pajama's)

CAMP CHELMNO

  • Some were have tattoos to remember who they really were. The nazis also use them to tell the different between the different types of prisoners.
  • They would live in small cells with a bed (probably not comfortable)
  • They would work until their death day came.

SZYMON SREBRNIK

  • He lost both of his parents at an young age. His father was shot and kill. Srebrnik and his mother were sent to Camp Chelmno, but his mother got gassed and died.
  • At the young age of 13 he got the nickname of "Spinvefix"(quick spider). He was forced to get rid of genecide evidence, and had to gather up crushed bones, and ashes of gas victims and drop them in the sea. He entertain the guards by singing to them. He won races and games in the prison.

SYZMON CONTINUED

  • On January 18, 1945, the Soviet troops came to liberate the prisoners. Most of the Jews got shot and killed who helped work on getting rid of evidence. Srebrnik was soon free but then he went to trail for Camp Chelmno.

  • This is the first camp that use gas to kill Jews in big numbers.
  • It a labor camp and a death camp.
  • There were a few different leaders.
  • It located in Poland.
