Oceanic oceanic
The geological feature prominent is the Sumatran Subduction Trench
Location
The 2004 Sumatran Earthquakes epicenter occurred just 200KM off the coast of Sumatra. The Indian Australian plate subducts at a a rate of 4.5 cm. a year under the Eurasian plate. This is why earthquakes occur here.
History/facts
The 2004 earthquake has been the largest recorded at this boundary. But many other quakes above 8 have occurred.
Continued
The 2004 earthquake lasted 10 minutes! It subducted over a boundary 900 miles long. Sadly killing 227,879 people. This is one of the largest death tokes in history. It was so devastating because 100 ft. Waves were created from the underwater quake. These waves crash landed on Sumatra devastatingly killing so many humans.
Future
Averaging 2 quakes a year, with one above a 7 magnitude. Sumatra is predicted to continue to experience quakes and devastating ones at that.
